Rolling in the Sand (desianey)

Talon's ears perked at her howl before dragging the three rabbits and one doe as quickly as he could to where he had heard her. He dropped the kill as he neared the stream, rubbing up against Fire to take a place beside her. "Beautiful. Now all we have to do is either find or make shelter," he muttered.

Talon suppressed a smile as she licked his cheek before jumping gracefully across the stream. Well, graceful until she landed on the other side and nearly fell from stumbling. He trotted back to his hunt, dragging it all back to the stream's bank except one rabbit. He left that for a little raccoon that was limping around. Might as well help it live.

Talon hunted more, slowly growing anxious as the seconds, minutes, hours past without a sound from Fire. He began pacing next to his kill, growling at himself for letting his thoughts make him nervous. His mind pictured what seemed like every single possible disastrous event. He pawed the ground, ran to make himself tired, growled, slashed his paw through his own reflection in the stream, tried to lay down and rest but found he could not. His whole body shot up straight when a tired-sounding howl finally echoed through the trees. Picking up as much of his hunt as he could, Talon sprinted towards where the sound originated. He eventually found the hole at the roots of a tree and ducked in. A soft grin graced his face when he found Fire asleep in the comfortable, warm den. He dropped the hunt he had carried in a corner before returning to where he was to grab the rest.

When he dropped the last of his hunt by Fire, he laid beside her and pressed his back to hers. He rested his head on his paws and shut his eyes, allowing sleep to take over.

Talon blinked his eyes open with a gentle yawn. Feeling a pressure on his back, he very slightly turned his head to look. A small smile graced his face as he saw Fire resting her head on his back. He nuzzled her cheek gently as he noticed some of his hunt was eaten. She must have woken once already.

"Good morning," he whispered back, smiling gently at her groggy state. "Did you sleep well?"

Talon smiled at her. "Delicious," he mumbled before digging in. "I'm glad you slept well though!" he yipped.

Talon yawned, his teeth flashing white. He blinked his eyes, standing up and stretching. His back popped a few times, and he groaned. He felt like he was getting old, but knew he was still young. He trotted out of the den to find Fire. He barked once, then listened for a response.

Talon heard her bark in response and immediately loped in her direction. He found her laying in the sun on the bank of the river, water glinting on her pelt. He chuckled, laying right behind her. "Did you fall in?" he asked.

Talon laughed a husky, deep laugh before nuzzling her.

[woah. Very fancy.]

Talon smirked at her fancy vocabulary. "oooh, fancy smanshy," he joked.

Talon rolled his eyes lightly. "Definitely smartical..." he trailed off, laughing.

Talon yelped as Fire pounced on him, then chuckled lowly. He rolled them over so he hovered above her, his teeth at her throat. "Now what?" he growled playfully.

Talon licked her cheek, suddenly serious. His eyes were soft as he whispered, "You are so beautiful."
